Russia-Ukraine conflict: Bundeswehr sends more warships to reinforce NATO’s northern flank. Five mine countermeasures units and a tender left the Kiel-Wik naval base today, Monday.

Due to growing tensions with Russia and against the background of the war in Ukraine, the Bundeswehr is deploying more soldiers and ships. On February 28, 2022, six warships left the Kiel naval base in the Kiel Fjord for the eastern Baltic Sea to reinforce NATO’s northern flank.

The following naval ships left the port of Kiel today:

  • Minehunter Datteln (M 1068)
  • Minehunter Fulda (M 1058)
  • Minehunter Homburg (M 1069)
  • Minehunter Sulzbach-Rosenberg (M 1062)
  • Minesweeper Siegburg (M 1098)
  • Tender Elbe (A 511)

In the past few days, the corvette Erfurt (F 262) from Bremerhaven and the fleet service boat Alster (A 50), a reconnaissance ship of the Oste class, have been sent to the Baltic Sea.
