Frigates of the Standing NATO Maritime Group 1 in the Kiel naval base: Frigates are attacked in the Kiel Fjord during an exercise by soldiers from the Special Forces Command of the Navy (KSM).
Over the weekend, several NATO frigates from Standing NATO Maritime Group 1 (SNMG 1) were guests at the naval base in Kiel. And on Monday (04/03/2023) the frigates had left the naval base in Kiel. On their way to the Baltic Sea they had to cross the Kiel Fjord. And here there was a little surprise for the frigates from Denmark, Spain, Poland, Portugal and Germany. Because soldiers of the KSM, that is the command of the special forces of the navy, expected the naval ships near the Friedrichsort lighthouse and on the opposite side of the fjord. Here the fjord is particularly narrow and therefore well suited for an exercise in which the frigates are attacked by speedboats. The crew of the frigates fired blank cartridges at the soldiers of the KSM, who simulated an attack on the passing naval ships with speedboats.
The following frigates had crossed the Kiel Fjord on Monday and were attacked by the KSM Marine Special Forces Command
- F 363 HDMS Niels Juel (Danish Navy)
- F 333 Bartolomeu Dias (Portuguese Navy)
- 273 ORP General Tadeusz Kosciuszko (Polish Navy)
- F 101 Alvaro de Bazan (Spanish Navy)
- F 218 Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (German Navy)
This way to the picture gallery of the naval ships and exercise of the KSM in the Kiel Fjord on April 4th, 2023
In addition, the mine hunting boat M 1063 Bad Bevensen was also on the way in the fjord. And another naval ship that is currently regularly on the move in the Kiel Fjord. Namely the frigate 905 Al Qahhar (Egyptian Navy), which was built in the shipyard of ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) in Kiel and is currently on trials and test drives in the Kiel Fjord and the Baltic Sea. All in all, an exciting day on the Kiel Fjord for photographing and filming naval ships.
