Cap San Diego museum cargo ship Arrival in Kiel on August 6th, 2022: The Cap San Diego arrived in Kiel on Saturday and will be moored at Sartorikai for a few days.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Rare guest in the Kiel Fjord: The Cap San Diego, the world’s largest operational museum cargo ship, is en route in the Kiel Fjord. The Cap San Diego is a 159 meter long general cargo ship and current museum ship with a berth at the Überseebrücke in the port of Hamburg. The Cap San Diego, built in 1961, was built as a general cargo ship and was used in liner service with South America until the 1980s. The ship was built by Deutsche Werft AG in Hamburg for the Hamburg Süd shipping company as the last ship in a series of identical general cargo ships and was launched in 1961 as the Cap San Diego. Together with her five sister ships, the Cap San Diego served the Hamburg–South America route. Among other things, it transported machines, chemicals and automobiles, but also live, pregnant cows to South America and coffee, meat, apples, pears, grapes, oranges, textiles, sweet oils and fruit juice concentrate to Hamburg.<\/p>\n

On August 6, 2022, the Cap San Diego, coming from Rendsburg, passed the Kiel Canal and left the lock in Kiel-Holtenau in the afternoon. This was followed by a trip towards the Baltic Sea and around 6 p.m. the museum cargo ship had passed the Laboe naval memorial and the lighthouse on Falckensteiner Strand with its destination Sartorikai in the port of Kiel. Arrival at Sartorikai (roughly described between Ostseekai and Schwedenkai on the west bank of the Kiel Fjord) was around 7 p.m. The Cap San Diego will be here until Thursday (11 August 2022) and then leave the port of Kiel again on Thursday at 11 a.m.<\/p>\n
