According to Defense Minister Enoksen, the defense budget for the current year 2022 will be increased by a further 300 million euros.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In view of the war in Ukraine, Norway has announced that the defense budget will be increased. According to Norway&rsquo;s Defense Minister Odd Roger Enoksen, who has been in office since October 2021, an additional three billion Norwegian kroner, the equivalent of around 309 million euros, are to flow into the defense budget for the current year. It is primarily about additional funds for the Norwegian Navy to militarily reinforce the northern parts of the country in the Arctic, including the border with Russia. In addition to a land border around 200 kilometers long (the only border between NATO and the USSR from 1991 to 1999) and a 20-kilometer border in the Varangerfjord, there is a border between Norway and Russia in the Barents Sea and in the Arctic.<\/p>\n<h2>Royal Norwegian Navy: Reinforce Arctic presence<\/h2>\n<p>The Royal Norwegian Navy (Kongelinge Norske Marine) has around 3,500 soldiers. The Norwegian Navy has the following ships to carry out its duties:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>6 Ula-class submarines<\/li>\n<li>4 Friedtjof Nansen class frigates<\/li>\n<li>6 minesweepers (3x Alta class and 3x Oskoy class)<\/li>\n<li>20 landing craft (S90N speedboats)<\/li>\n<li>6 missile boats (Skjold-class coastal corvettes with stealth characteristics)<\/li>\n<li>Supply ship Maud<\/li>\n<li>FS Marjata electronic intelligence collection vessel (ELINT)<\/li>\n<li>2 surveillance ships<\/li>\n<li>Recovery and tugboat Valkyren<\/li>\n<li>2 training ships<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Norway had already <a title=\"Construction of 6 submarines: major order for ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems shipyard in Kiel\" href=\"https:\/\/www.know-about.de\/u-boot-grossauftrag-kieler-werft-thyssenkrupp-marine-systems.html\">commissioned the Kiel shipyard ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) with the construction of four new submarines for the Norwegian Navy<\/a> in 2021.
